iNaturalist

What is iNaturalist? (from the iNaturalist website):

One of the world’s most popular nature apps, iNaturalist helps you identify the plants and animals around you. Get connected with a community of over a million scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature! What’s more, by recording and sharing your observations, you’ll create research quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

How does PLE use iNaturalist?

PLE created a project in iNaturalist titled "Pymatuning Lab of Ecology Biodiversity Challenge."  This iNaturalist project seeks to harness the collective efforts of our researchers, undergrad students, our K-12 outreach students and any local citizen-scientist enjoying PLE's properties to describe the biodiversity of the various properties that PLE owns. We encourage our users to make a habit of reporting the species they encounter to iNauralist. Any report that occurs on a PLE property will automatically show up on this page.

This project is part of a broader initiative at PLE to begin to collect and curate ecological data about these habitats to better guide future students and researchers about the types of habitats and communities available for study as well as to identify areas that need special protection and management.
