FAQ

  • Who can rent the facility?
    • Our facilities can be made available to groups whose mission is education-related.  For example, we host retreats for a variety of departments from both Pitt and other universities, research lab groups, as well as service organizations.  We cannot host events like weddings, graduation parties, or any for-profit activities.
  • When is the facility available?
    • In general, conference dates are limited to times when our University field courses (offered mid-May to early August) are not in session.  September is a very busy event-hosting time for us and weekends book early.  Please email or call us (814-720-6614) to check if a suitable time is available for your group.
  • How many guests can PLE house?
    • We can accomodate around 100 guests when all of our housing units are available.  Details can be found in this information packet.
  • Are bedding/linens provided?
    • No.  Guests will need to bring their own sheets, blankets, pillows and toweling.  The mattress size of each bed of each housing unit is available in this information packet.
  • Is catering available?
    • PLE works with a local caterer to provide meals for retreat guests, if desired.  We will put you in touch with the caterer and you can work out the details of a menu that fit your needs and budget.
  • How many guests can your Dining Hall accomodate?
    • Our Dining Hall can accomodate 80+ diners. If your group anticipates having substantially more than 80 diners, we can arrange for a party tent rental to accomodate the extra guests.
  • Does PLE provide AV equipment?
    • PLE can provide a projector, speaker, and screen for use in our dining hall or one of our lecture halls.  We ask that retreat groups bring a laptop computer to use with this equipment.
  • Does PLE have wireless internet?
    • PLE has excellent high-speed wireless internet available in all of our buildings.
  • What type of recreational opportunities are there?
    • The recreational opportunities are endless! There are canoes and kayaks, a volleyball court, and a horseshoe pit. In the Recreation Hall there is a fireplace, satellite television, a pool table, and ping-pong table as well as a variety of board games. Nearby are beaches for swimming and trails for hiking, biking, bird watching, and running. Bring your fishing rod and hit the lake in search of bass, crappie, perch and walleye.  In the evening, the lakeside campfire pit is a big hit for socializing and roasting marshmallows.
  • Does PLE have any boats available for guest use?
    • Yes!  We have canoes and kayaks for which use is free to our guests.  For a nominal charge, we can also provide one or both of our 12 person pontoon boats that are docked at our facility (when water levels permit).
  • I'm ready to book an event!  Who do I contact?
