Students listening to a scientistField Techniques in Ecology and Conservation (BIOSC 1390)

This course uses field demonstrations, hands-on research experience, and field trips to provide training and skill development for students interested in ecology and conservation. Students learn common techniques for surveying aquatic and terrestrial organisms, such as birds, mammals, fish, amphibians, insects, and vegetation. Students also carry out supervised research projects to deepen understanding of experimental design, apply proper field techniques, and appropriately compile and analyze data. Field trips to local conservation organizations provide face-to-face interactions with professionals and offer opportunities to learn about career paths.
